Week #22

Namur

This week was a ton of fun! So on Monday we started teaching another family they are called the Mattys family! They are super nice! They have a son with autism and he is so funny! I understand like every 5 words he says! We are teaching 7 separate families right now! We have a million Amis it's hard, but awesome at the same time! On Tuesday day we had District Meeting in a small town called Namur. We had to make the "main meal"... and.. we totally forgot haha. So we stopped at a gas station on the way there and bought chicken noodle soup and just microwaved it! It worked so we didn't even care. Our District is pretty boring haha. We played basketball after it was pretty fun/funny. And Namur is a super cool city. We had to wait for our train to come so we got to go shopping for a little bit! They have a million stores there. It's a lot nicer than here.  After that we taught a lesson to a family we reactivated. Their last name is Bouvais. They are super cool! They come from Mexico originally and they made us super good Mexican food! We talked about prayer being like a phone call. We did an example Guymon was himself and I pretended to be God. They thought it was super funny. And there was a Tahitian staying in our apartment on a exchange. He is so tight his name is Elder Taroura. Wednesday I think I explained this a little bit last time but we are going around neighborhoods and putting letters in peoples mail boxes. So we did that in the morning. It's interesting.. Then I convinced Elder Guymon that the Megladon (giant shark) is real. He never wants to go into the water again. Then we went porting. Everyone was mad that we put stuff in their mailbox haha. Then we ate at a members house. Their names is Vanhulst they are really nice to us! They made suuuuper good food! I think it was cheesy potatoes.. which are like my favorite! On Thursday our DL pulled a fast one and was like "we need to do exchanges right now so get on the next train and Elder Beck is going to Namur.." So.. I went on a exchange to Namur. It was interesting if you want more details ask. When I got to Namur there was a go cart race going on and people were dressed like Mario Characters and racing throughout the city it was so tight! We taught a guy and he was just suuuper hammered.  The Namur apartment is super cool with a view of the whole city! Then we went porting and we knocked on a Jehovah witness door. And he tried telling me that the Book of Mormon talks about Jehovah. Then I said "well if the Book of Mormon is true then that means Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God" and he was just stunned. And instead of bashing with us he just said come back next week. haha. Im glad I don't have to go over there again because he seemed crazy. Friday I went straight home to good ol Charleroi. We did weekly planning. Got bailed on. Cooked dinner. Elder Guymon ate raw chicken and got sick haha. So we stayed home all night.. Pretty lame. Saturday we get a call from Patrick at 6 am saying "we need you at the church to do a service project." so we headed over there and cleaned the church for like 3hrs and it was pretty cool. Our bishop pretended to be Darth Maul with a broom stick it was probably the funniest thing I have ever seen. And I got it on video. can't send it though sorry. Then we taught the Mattys family again! They really like having us over! Then we went porting for a little while and then met up with the other Elders and went porting for like another hour it was pretty fun! Sunday was daylight savings and we accidentally set the clock the opposite way haha. But luckily Elder Guymons spider senses went off and we woke everyone up on time and we all got to church on time! We had 4 Amis at church! And 3 less active families again! But we had to go porting for a long time yesterday! Like 6hrs of porting it was fooorever! My feet still kill haha. Today we got sushi for lunch! It was sooo good! And that's my week for ya! I hope you guys have a good one! Do something funny for April Fools and send it to me! Love you guys!!!!

Week #21

Elder Christofferson

Bonjour tout le monde! I had a good week this week!  Last p-day was Elder Guymons birthday. We went bowling, I think I already told you that, but after we went to Patricks house and ate cake and he showed us our facebook page and instagram.. It was weird haha. Tuesday we had a zone conference in Brussels! We had to wake up at 4 in order to get there on time.... so I was wicked tired!  Elder Christofferson came and gave a good talk to our zone! He did a question and answer thing. We are doing a new way of contacting now because of Easter and porting. We leave little blue papers in their mail box! Its pretty funny! But me and my comp are trying to take the things that Elder Christofferson said and apply them into our life! Wednesday we had an RDV with a recent convert named Dogan. He is a stud and is doing super good already and has a calling in the church! We watched Package Deal videos on Youtube he loved it. But after that we just went contacting! Later that night we had an RDV with a family who hasn't come to church in 4 years and we totally reactivated them!  I forget to tell you guys that the last couple of weeks! But they have come to church now 3 weeks in a row! I will take a pic of them for next week! But we had a really good lesson with them and gave the daughter a blessing after! Thursday was a funny day. We were kinda bummed because at the very beginning of the day our RDV that we were super excited for bailed on us.. and.. our microwave just decided to light on fire!!! We didn't do anything wrong and it just lights on fire! It was sooo scary, but the ZL's are buying us a new one this Saturday so we cool.  We had a lesson with Piempie. We watched the Restoration movie with him. And after he is like yeah I believe this is all true. So then we were like now what are you going to do and he said be baptized! Woot Woot! Now we just have to get his butt to church and teach him other lessons! On Friday we had lunch at a part member families house. Then just did weekly planning. Then after we had a lesson with a members parents. They were really excited to see us! They are like 60 years old!  We taught them a super good lesson! They really liked it, we are going back this week! Saturday was a decent day. We had 3 RDVs lined up and 2 of them bailed.. but  we had a lesson with the part member family who has a 9 year old who isn't baptized! The bishop came and brought his son who just got baptized and the little stud bore his testimony at the end! It was so awesome!  Night time Elder Guymoney had super bad allergies and couldn't even open up his eyes. So he just slept and I just read talks.Sunday was AWESOME it was Ward Conference! We had 2 Amis come to church and 3 less active families that we are teaching come to church too! We taught them all lessons after church! It was sooo sweet! And after that we just handed out flyers and it's super awkward but we still do it haha. Thanks for all your emails this week! Love you guys!!!

ps idk if I ever told you guys this. But I can't preview the photos I send you guys because the computers here are like 105050 years old. So if the pictures are bad sorry. I just guess what file it is haha. But if it's what it's supposed to be of it's me and my comp. with our matching socks on. Our ward thought it was the funniest thing ever!

Week #20

Happy 311

HAPPY St. Patrick's day everyone! So on Tuesday it was 311 day I hope everyone celebrated;) A member made us crepes that day. We went contacting and porting that whole entire day. No success, but it was still a fun day. We saw some really interesting people. Wednesday was again a fairly normal day in the life of a missionary. We started out the day by contacting, then we tried finding some people out of the area book. Went to some peoples houses, but they didn't live there anymore. Then there was this Amis party by the other Elders at our church so we invited some Amis to come. They said they were coming, we saw them on the way up there...but they never showed up. So we just left and went porting.  Thursday  was a super fun day! We went to Namur for District Meeting! It's a pretty place! The church was in the middle of nowhere. Our district is pretty good.  The zone leaders came, they are super cool. The District Meeting was 15 minutes long, so we took an hour long train to get there #WasteOfTime. Anyway we played basketball with the ZL's one of them is African American... guess what? We beat them;) I got the most points. Boom. On the way back home we were waiting in the train station and I saw some dude walk past me with a Utah Jazz shirt on... I was so confused so I worked up the guts to go talk to him. Turns out he lived in Texas for 2 years and knew someone on the Jazz, I forgot who. I just pretended like I knew him. But he was a pro basket ball player. He was so cool. And the best news was he was INTERESTED!! Bad news he lives in Namur...but moving to Charleroi -  but I will be gone by then - sad day. My zone leaders brought me all my letters from the mission home! Made my day! Then we went to DMP meeting after. Friday we went to the church to work on the Indexing PowerPoint that we are wanting to make. Then weekly planning. We did pass backs and taught a sweet lesson to an X Military dude, he is so cool! Then went porting and because we are living right the Lord blesses us and found out that the people down the road have been getting our mail because people keep writing the address wrong! But pretty cool! So we gave them our number and they were really nice!

On Saturday so we started off the day by teaching one of our old amis. He was super cool and we had a really good lesson. Just one problem, he was asking the weirdest questions!!! Like how to enter other dimensions by prayer. Then we did some work with Patrick and taught a lesson to a less active guy, and his two sons - one which isn't baptized! We are working on them! Then we went to another less actives house - I hate going over there because they have 13 chinchillas and I am allergic! We did some more porting and had a jolly ole' time. On Sunday it was super sweet! We went to church and took an ami with us. He is nice. We scheduled 10 RDVs for the next week just at church! I am so pumped we have such a good week lined up with all my favorite people haha. But at the end of the night we visited Dominique and her family they are always so nice to us! They were super cool! But ya that's my week! Its my comps Birthday today! We went bowling. The pictures I took this week: Church by our house. Sunday we dressed like nerds so I wore some other elder's tie. One is us bowling. The other one is us next to a little horse we found. He was so gross. Thanks for all your emails you guys love you!

Week #19

New companion, Elder Guymon

Yo what's up my people? This week was freaking crazy! So on P-day we find out that we are no longer in the district that we were originally in. It's super stupid because the 2 other Elders that we room with aren't even in our district anymore.. Super lame. Anyways then we find out that the sisters asked President if they can no longer work in our sector anymore. He said yes for some reason now we don't have any sisters working with us. Now we have like 100 new Amis that are single woman and we're not allowed to teach single woman so it's super difficult! BUT.. it's all good because I have a new companion now! So after we did our pday stuff we had an RDV with a family in the ward that are super nice and they just said bye to Elder Bates. Then Tuesday we had to do a ton of work because we a ton of RDV with people so we were working like crazy trying to get to places on time and get ready to leave. We went to a members house and ate dinner with a non member and her family and had a sweet lesson! Then Wednesday was transfer day!  I said later to Elder Bates sent him on a train. Then went on a split with the other Elders until 3. Then went and picked up my new comp Elder Guymon! He is from California! He is so cool! We get along super well! After he got here we went porting and the first door we knock on a nice lady answers and was super interested and we taught a lesson on the door step!  On Thursday we had to work a ton on organizing the area book for all the new women amis and stuff like that. Just went and knocked on their doors and they weren't exactly happy to see us.. So we just got dropped by like 10 people in one day haha. So thats how I know that was a bad idea taking out the Sisters... super annoying. After we did all that we went to have DMP meeting . Then we went to a less actives house he's probably one of my favorites (super chill.) Friday not too much happened because we had weekly planning and transfer planning! And 2 RDVs fell through so that was annoying. Then we just went porting for a long time and taught like 3 lessons pretty cool! Then On Saturday we went contacting around Patricks house. He took us out to eat at this fry joint it was super good! Then we had 2 pretty good RDVs with him.   Sunday I had to give a talk! And I had no time to write it because we were working so hard.  I wrote it on the way to church haha. And there was a meeting for all the bishops so they were all there and it was kinda scary. They all said they liked it ,but I felt like it wasn't that good! But then we just worked all day Sunday, nothing new. Today was super ghetto because all the buses are on strike so we are having to walk every where! But that's that for the week! Thanks for all your Emails!

Week # 18

I am a legit missionary!!!

Alright so on Tuesday it started off pretty bad, but it got a lot better! So we decided to hit up the countryside of Charleroi where the money is and do some knocking and finding old members. So that's where the picture comes from. But we ended up walking 12 miles by the end of they day! I was so tired! Really cool place though! Got lost like 5 times! We ended up being 20 minutes late to a RDV and luckily Patrick came to save us and picked us up in the middle of no where!  We went to a old amis house and had a really cool RDV (don't want to go into details sorry.) But that's pretty much it. Wednesday we had District Meeting then I got to go on another exchange with Elder Cardon the DL. Super fun like always! Had a super cool RDV with this guy from the Congo. Then we went to Patricks. Then we  went to this family in the wards house and they gave us cake so it was nice! Then we went to this food place and got some sandwiches and Elder Cardon got food poisoning haha poor kid. But it was super funny. Thursday we just sat around because Elder Cardon was sick. IDK why everyone is sick around me. But just until 3 then I got to go to Mons for a little bit to pick up my comp. Mons is such a beautiful place! But after that we went strait to DMP meeting. It was really good. Then I made crepes because I know how to make them now they are really good too :) Friday honestly nothing happened. So I'm just going to skip it. Saturday we went to Patricks house and ate a raclette its pretty much just melted cheese on meat it was soooo good :) We went and visited some people after had some really good RDVs. Then we started our fast and had to break it 2 times that night because when we were porting and people kept offering us food and drinks and it's super rude if you say no to that here so we didn't risk it. Saw some super weird stuff that night too! People that ask I will tell but not including it in this. Sunday was cool it was testimony meeting and people shared really good stuff. They asked me to give a talk so now I have to give a talk on Sunday!! Kinda freaked out not going to lie. Then we went to Patricks and watched the district for 2 1/2 hrs for studies. Good news I am no longer in training!!! I am a legit missionary now woot woot! But after that we went to a birthday party for someone in the qard. Then just went knocking on doors! Good night! Today is p-day, already been different. I ate Zebra... so yeah that happened.
On that good note. Love you guys! Thanks for all your help!

Week # 17
Good news...

Ok then let's start on Tuesday! We just did some contacting downtown - fairly normal nothing crazy. We then ate some lunch and went contacting for another 3 hours, no one listened that day but it was really cold out side so that was one of the big reasons. Then we taught a lesson with Patrick to a lady named Margarita.  Then we just did some porting and that's all that happened that day. Wednesday was super sweet! Cabrina left for the MTC that day and that was super mind blowing. It was Zone Conference/ Interviews. Cool side story; we had to all catch this train if we wanted to make it there on time. The Sisters were running late and the train started leaving... I sarcastically said the church isn't true if they don't catch this train - joking. Then (not kidding) the train came to a dead halt and had a 10 minute delay and they got on board. So good news the church is still true! Anyway, Elder Karl and I bought each other some pretty cool gifts and did a gift exchange, I felt terrible because his was 10 times cooler than mine. I am awful at getting gifts! Pretty crazy day in all honesty. But after all that we just went porting and did some missionary stuff. Thursday we had a RDV with a recent convert and taught a really good lesson on church callings. Turned out that he had been offered a church calling and he was super scared to say yes and the lesson helped him to better understand why we have callings. We had an appt with a  guy, and it turned out to be a fairly decent lesson! We had DMP meeting with the ward. We watched a video on indexing and it was like 30 minutes long. Friday started off the day kinda bad, one of the families we had dropped us. So we just went contacting, but didn't teach any lessons. Weekly planning next. We went to the other Elders church and gave amis a church tour (that's what the picture is of) they are all super cool. Really good lesson too! Saturday was pretty much the same thing, we did a ton of porting and contacting that day. No lessons though. We got home and made like 5 pounds of fried chicken it was really good! Then we had a really good lesson with a guy in our ward and an ami named Luc. Really nice guy! We taught the Plan of Salvation and he has a really good understanding!  Then we just taught some lessons - that's really all that happened this week! Love you guys!!!! Thanks for all your emails!

Week #16

Amis

BONJOUR everyone!!! Had a super fun week this week. On Tuesday we had District meeting, and an apartment inspection! We passed - Woot Woot! Then right after that I went on a split with the District Leader he is so tight! We just pretty much hung out the whole day we went out to eat and had a super fun time! Taught 2 good lessons as well! Then we both realized that we both needed to go to Brussels together for Legality stuff. So we went went on an exchange the next day to Brussels! We went into Elder Karl's sector and Elder Karl's Companion is friends with the DL so we all went out and ate together and stuff. It was so much fun! I got to go to Mons - it's so pretty there! It got voted the prettiest ville in all of Belgium! (That's what the picture is of) On Thursday my companion was sick.  We stayed inside for almost the whole day. But we taught a lesson to one of our new amis (Ami means investigator I'm going to start using that now because it's a ton easier) anyway his name is Achile he is soooo sweet and so is his family! So glad we went to it. Then we just went knocking on doors that night and this old man lost it at us and tried hitting me with is cane haha it was so funny. At the time it was a little scary though! On the 14th Elder Bates was sick again. We went to the church so I could  work on a Power Point I am making for the ward so they can actually learn how to Index. Then we just stayed inside all day again because my comp is still sick. We taught a lesson to an inactive family. Happy Valentines day to me! Then on Saturday we went contacting for a long time because I really want to find some new amis. We visited this dude who lives in our sector taught a way good lesson on faith! Come to find out his 9 year old son has never been baptized and he said he wants to be now! SOOOO good news everyone - probably going to have another baptism soon. Sunday was awesome! We went to church and after we taught Dario and 3 other young men 18 and up the importance of missionary work! They all committed to start preparing for missions - so freaking awesome! Probably the best lesson on my mission. The bishops son was baptized so we got to go to a baptism it was really good! Funny side story, when the bishop was walking up the steps after he just baptized his son, the littlest boy yelled out "Dad you're NAKED" because he could see is underwear hahahah so funny. Today I got a hair cut and its not as bad as last time. So there is some good news for ya! Love you guys thanks for all your emails!
